I originally published this corner to corner pattern as the Game Day crochet blanket pattern, designed so you could use any team’s colors. So with the 2026 FIFA World Cup right around the corner, I knew it needed a relaunch with a proper moment in the spotlight.
Every few days throughout the tournament, a new country-inspired blanket pattern will be dropping with a fresh color palette based on each nation’s flag or iconic soccer jersey. It’s a fun way to celebrate your favorite team throughout the World Cup!
This is the pattern for you if:

How the Team Colors will work
Not sure how to map the country’s colors to the actual blanket? Here’s a quick breakdown:
This is how your team’s colors will be used in the World Cup Spirit blanket:
- Pick 2 main colors. These are the main colors used in the blanket. This can be the 2 most dominant colors in the flag, or their home jersey colors.
- Pick 2 alternating colors. These are used less often in the blanket. This can be other colors in the flag, or the colors of the away jerseys.
- Pick 1 coordinating/complimentary color. This is used to split up the colors. White or black usually works great here.
So here is they key you will use when reading the pattern:
- MC1 = Main Color 1
- MC2 = Main Color 2
- AC1 = Alternating Color 1
- AC2 = Alternating Color 2
- CC1 = Coordinating Color 1
Modification for countries that don’t have 5 colors in their flag or jerseys
Each team pattern will include specific guidance, but here’s the general rule if there are only 3-4 colors:
- For countries that only have 3 colors: Use MC1 as AC1 + use MC2 as AC2. This will keep the same 3 colors in rotation while still following the pattern.
- For countries that only have 4 colors: Use the same color for AC1 and AC2. This will keep the same 4 colors in rotation while still following the pattern.

Some C2C Basics: What Is Corner to Corner Crochet?
If you’re new to C2C, welcome – you’re going to love it!
Corner to Corner (C2C) is a crochet technique where you work your blanket diagonally, building it up one small block (or ’tile’) at a time. You start at the bottom right corner and end in the top left corner.
A “tile” or block is a set of < ch3+3dc >.
Why beginners love it:
- C2C has an easy-to-remember stitch repeat.
- Each tile/block flows easily once you’ve started. You’ll by flying through color changes in no time!
- Color changes are clean and easy to manage since they always occur at the end of a row in this pattern.
- It’s highly visual – you can see your progress with every row.
Why experienced crocheters love it:
- Colorwork makes this different from other C2C projects you may have done. It’s truly unique.
