Difficulty level

  • Easy

Supplies

  • 2 balls* of Lion Brand Mandala (I used ‘Spirit’)
  • 5mm crochet hook (I love the ergonomic hooks by ‘Loops & Threads’ and ‘Boye‘.
  • Yarn needle, scissors, and 2 inches of scrap paper to weave in ends

*I actually used a tiny bit of a 3rd ball for the very last row and slip stitches. The pattern does say 2 balls, however I came up just short. If this happens to you and you don’t want to buy another mandala ball, you can always use another color that will fit well into the pattern. For example, in this pattern, I could have picked up a light or dark gray, or any of the shades of blue you see and it would work perfectly!

If you want to spice things up a bit, you can even use a totally different color to make the border pop.

Pattern

This is Lion Brand’s ‘Whitby Baby Blanket‘, Pattern Number: L70006.

If you’ve been following me, its no secret I have a soft spot for self-striping yarn. When you have a simple pattern, that’s a great way to:

  • BEAT BOREDOM: You won’t get bored because a color change is always around the corner (literally). This can be incredibly useful when you’re working on any large project.
  • DO MAGIC: Your finished design will have multiple colors without a single color change. Magic right!? 😉

Don’t be intimidated by color changes though. I used to be, but soon learned its a lot easier than I thought. Have a look at my 3 super easy tips to weave in the ends. You’ll be whipping up multi-colored projects in no time!

Inspiration

After I made a gorgeous blanket for my daughter, my son kept asking when he would get one of mommy’s blankets! I picked this color of Lion Brand Mandala yarn because I knew he would love the colors!

This was my first project working with Lion Brand Mandala, and I was not disappointed! I love the texture, and it stretches just enough to be forgiving. It is not a super thick yarn, so it ended up being a medium weight blanket. This was great though, because this doesn’t have to be put away with all the heavy blankets come spring time. It can be used year-round 🙂

I hope you enjoyed reading about this Double Crochet blanket. I highly encourage you to give it a try! Please let me know if you have any questions!
