I was so happy to hear that you guys liked my previous post about Disney-themed color palettes! A couple of days ago, I was asked to create 2 more character-themed color palettes, as one of my readers was looking to crochet Disney-themed face masks (how awesome!) Plus, I’ve actually been on the hunt to order some yarn for a pastel rainbow-themed project. So it sounds like now is a great time to dive into more crochet color palettes.
Need some crochet inspiration?
I have to admit, I selfishly love writing these kinds of posts. Ever reach a point where you’re not quite sure what your next crochet project should be? Or the even general color scheme you’re going for?
Having a look at pre-made color palettes can really help. Plus, when the yarn names and colors are listed for you, it makes it much easier for you to replicate exactly what caught your eye.
Trust your (crochet) gut
Personally, I have been in crochet inspiration “limbo” for a week or so. I’ve started 3 projects, but I haven’t gotten past row 2 on any of them, because none of them really got me excited. (And what’s the point if it isn’t fun right?!)
When this happens, I step back and ask myself – what is catching my eye? What is “fun” to me right now? Here’s a tip to help fire up some crochet inspiration:
Have a look at your recent pins on Pinterest! That will show you the colors and types of projects you’ve been gravitating towards recently. Trust your gut. THOSE pictures are what jumped out at you when you were browsing for ideas.
To take it a step further, think about:
- Are they all small projects that require half a skein of yarn, or large blankets that require 3 balls?
- Do they use bright bold colors, neutral/monotone, or pastel colors?
- Are 2-3 colors used, or does it include a wide array of colors?
Crochet color palettes
For each yarn, you will see:
Yarn: The yarn brand name and type of yarn. For example, ‘Red Heart Yarn’ is the brand name, and ‘Super Saver’ is the type of yarn. Most yarn brands do have a TON of different options after all!
Fiber: The material the yarn is made of (e.g. 100% cotton, acrylic, etc).
Tip: take a screenshot of that chart and mark it as a ‘favorite’ on your phone. That way, when you’re shopping for yarn – either in a store or online – you can pull this up right away.
Yarn Weight: When looking at the ‘yarn weight’ on the labels, you’ll see numbers, categories, ply, and other terms, and honestly it can get confusing! Without a yarn weight conversion chart at your fingertips, it can be tricky. So I created a quick Yarn weight conversion chart, to ensure you’re getting the right yarn for your project.
Suggested crochet hook size: Each yarn will have a recommended hook size, but depending on your tension (if you crochet loose or crochet tight), and the type of drape you’re looking to achieve, don’t be afraid to go up or down a hook size.
Similar to the yarn weight above, there is no one, global standard for crochet hook sizes. So I put together a Crochet hook size conversion chart so you don’t need to google ‘conversions for hook sizes’ every time you read a pattern or research some yarn 🙂
Colorways: The color, or colorway, of the yarn will be listed for each color.
Great, lets jump in!
Pastel Rainbow
- Yarn: Lion Brand Feels Like Butta
- Fiber: 100% polyester
- Yarn weight: 4 (medium)
- Suggested hook size: 4mm (US G-6)
- Colors (see note below)
- Blossom (Lavender Pink)
- Pink (Pale Pink)
- Lemon (Pastel Yellow)
- Ice (Pale Aqua)
- Seafoam (Baby Blue)
- Lilac (Pale Lavender)
*Note: There are 2 colors listed for each color. This is because I noticed that when you mouse-over the color on the Lion Brand website, it shows 1 name there, but when you add it to the cart it shows another name. So I listed both to avoid confusion!
Also, Lion Brand’s website carries 2 different kinds of Feels Like Butta. One is 590 yards and the other is 218 yards. So check both of those to get the colors mentioned above.
Minnie Mouse (classic)
- Yarn: Lion Brand Color Made Easy
- Fiber: 100% acrylic
- Yarn weight: 5 (bulky)
- Suggested hook size: 6.5mm (US K-10.5)
- Colorways (see note below)
- Crimson (True Red)
- Millennial (Pale Peachy Pink)
- Birch (Optic White)
- Caviar (Black)
- Tumeric (Curry Yellow)
*Note: There are 2 colors listed for each color. This is because I noticed that when you mouse-over the color on the Lion Brand website, it shows 1 name there, but when you add it to the cart it shows another name. So I listed both to avoid confusion!

If you’re looking for Minnie Mouse colors with cotton yarn, have a look at the first round of crochet color palettes I put together. We used Paintbox Cotton DK yarn (100% cotton) for the Mickey Mouse palette, which can be used for Minnie Mouse as well.
Pluto (option 1)
- Yarn: Paintbox Cotton Aran
- Fiber: 100% cotton
- Yarn weight: Worsted (4/medium)

- Colorways:

Pluto (option 2)
Here’s another Pluto option in acrylic yarn.
I like using Red Heart Super Saver yarn for these color combination suggestions because this yarn brand is widely available in the US (e.g. Walmart, Joann, Michaels), but it’s also available outside the US through places like Lovecrafts.com. I’d hate to list yarns that most of you can’t actually get your hands on!
- Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver (Yarnspirations)
- Fiber: 100% acrylic
- Yarn weight: 4 (medium)
- Suggested hook size: 5.5mm (US I-9)
- Colorways:
Tropical splash
I mean, come on!! Is this not the most vibrant, beautiful set of colors!?

Ariel
I have some green and red yarn left over from previous projects, and the only thing that came to mind was Christmas or winter projects. So I thought, I’m sure there are some characters that use these colors. Sure enough, they would be a great fit for this Disney princess mermaid!
- Yarn: Caron Simply Soft
- Fiber: 100% acrylic
- Yarn weight: 4 (medium)
- Suggested hook size: 5mm (US H-8)
